It would of course be very convenient, but Minecraft technology is designed to feel rustic and a bit clunky, and this limitation on them is what makes them feel very Minecrafty you can only interact with them in their block form, because that how literally everything else in the game works. And besides, it doesn even make sense conceptually that you be able to open a Shulker box without placing it down, they large and unwieldy, and their contents would probably spill out everywhere (though that doesn matter much as realism doesn really matter).Seems I in the minority but I be disappointed if this was added. A big part of my happiness with Shulker boxes is how genius of a vanilla backpack implementation they were, and I think any way to interact with them in your inventory would take away from that.
