When looking at towing a trailer tent, it is important that you check to see if your car is suitable and up to the task. One of the most important aspects of towing a trailer is to make sure that you have a good hitch to attach your trailer to. This is important because no matter what you do with the trailer itself, if the hitch is not of good quality and properly attached, it can simply fly off of your vehicle unexpectedly.

Safe towing requires that the driver take constant care to give a wider berth than usual around any corner. Rear wheels are not connected to the driveline in Front Wheel Drive cars, so there's no need to put the vehicle in neutral. Each chain or cable shall have an ultimate strength at least equal to the gross weight of the trailer and the load being towed.

If you are forced to step on the brake suddenly, just remember you have a large weight behind you, so the vehicle may act differently. Tow a small car to the campsite and your daytime roaming knows no bounds. It also contains a feed for the reverse lights on the caravan.

Purchase a wiring system that connects and coordinates the brake lights and turn signals of both vehicles. It's no good knowing your vehicle's maximum towing capacity if you don't know what your trailer can handle - or whether your load will put it over the limitations of your trailer, or the law.

Queensland Road rules specify certain requirements for towing other cars. Part of the load rests on the tow hitch of the towing vehicle. Do not attempt to control trailer sway by applying the tow vehicle brakes; this will generally make the sway worse. Removable tail lights attach to the rear of the towed vehicle and use the electrical system of the tow vehicle for braking and signaling turns.

Carefully watch the brake lights and indicators of the vehicle that is towing, for maximum notice of any upcoming moves. Categories B and BE allow you to drive a vehicle weighing up to 3,500kg and tow a caravan or trailer of normal proportions. An exemption from the driver licensing trailer limit allows a category B licence holder to tow a broken down vehicle from a position where it would otherwise cause danger or obstruction to other road users, to a point of safety.

If you have a spare tire and you know how to change it, then that's great but if you don't you will need to look for a towing service or roadside assistance service available in your area. On a learner or restricted car licence (Class 1) you can tow a trailer but the combined weight of your vehicle, the trailer and its load must not exceed 4500kg.
