First concern, what is your repair. If you're planning a trip, make sure you check the towing laws and regulations for your state and any state you'll be traveling through. The trailer may be a caravan or camper trailer, boat trailer, horse float or special-purpose trailer. In some instances, such as when a new immobilizer system is required, the vehicle will need to be towed to a garage where it can be fixed at a later date.

Queensland Road rules specify certain requirements for towing other cars. Part of the load rests on the tow hitch of the towing vehicle. Do not attempt to control trailer sway by applying the tow vehicle brakes; this will generally make the sway worse. Removable tail lights attach to the rear of the towed vehicle and use the electrical system of the tow vehicle for braking and signaling turns.

If you have difficulty, pull forward and realign the tow vehicle and trailer and start again. You should always make sure you choose the hitches and tow bars that are specific for great loads, and that combine with the towing capacity of your car or vehicle. The speed of other vehicles travelling on the carriageway would make it extremely dangerous for you, the other driver and all other road users.

The tow truck then draws the vehicle up so that the vehicle only rests on one axle, usually the back one. Once the trailer is attached, you'll want to secure safety chains from the trailer to the vehicle in a criss-cross pattern, and be sure the chains don't touch the ground.

The first thing that you should know is that car towing is not anybody's job and it should be strictly left out for the experts. It can be frustrating if one lorry is overtaking another with barely any difference in speed between them, but the rule is there to ease the flow of traffic and make sure the outside lane isn't clogged with slow-moving vehicles.

It'll be a handy thing to have in your boot anyway, and automotive aftermarket outlets carry a wide range of towropes - a heavy-duty example rated for 3.5 tonnes and meeting British Standards should cover just about any towing eventuality. Extra mirrors for towing large trailers if required.
