Garmin recommends removing the watch and letting it sit undisturbed for 20 30 minutes if you want to use the internal temperature sensor to measure the environment. The alternative is to purchase and pair a Garmin Tempe external temperature sensor and mount it on a backpack or similar location. Just this morning it was lying on the bed as I was about to take a shower, and I saw the screen light up with a notification but do not recall hearing the vibration.

It dries quick, but definitely needs a wash after a few wears. My setup 6 8 years old and bulky/heavy compared to what available now, but it was relatively very inexpensive (they always have sales, look out at xmas) and nothing ripped over the course of dozens of trips so I pretty happy with it.
