I cut a rectangular piece of black foam core and gorilla taped it onto the backpack to flatten the pockets and pouches down. It basically a soft backpack against my back with a flat board facing outward.

I would prefer not to get a north face again because I dislike their current designs for their packs (They are too young or too campy).
