I still learning a lot about the game and didn even know there was a bobby backpack that preserves food. I don know if it would be too useful at least for me because I never had a problem with food spoiling much. At all. As a side note, I know that you eliminated Tom Bihn from consideration, but the Synapse 25 just looks like a basic backpack (kind of like a JanSport from the 80s) and would be perfect for the tasks you have in mind. It can be used as an EDC bag and then transition seamlessly into a great one bag travel backpack anti theft pack. If you buy it in Black or Nebulous Grey, it minimizes the “technical” styling quite a bit.

I would prefer not to get a north face again because I dislike their current designs for their packs (They are too young or too campy). I originally used a NRS Boundary bag. For a martial artists, lets say you will give them super heavy armour their strength will get maybe around 30 40 theft proof backpack before they will need further encumbrance. If you keep them in that armour their dodge will keep maxing out so that helps but because they are constantly getting hit/dodging their MA skill will not increase. This is even worst if you add Trawling and other random loot. There assholes in every hiking subculture, and there are kind, considerate people too. I met plenty of really nice traditional backpackers who I joined up with for a while and had a blast, and I seen a lot of ULers who are really kind to traditional backpackers and don look down on them or lecture or show off.
