Unless youre planning on going to the countryside where you might have to carry your luggage for extended periods of time i would take a medium sized suitcase with wheels and a small backpack for day to day stuff. Roads are usually smooth and exept for stairs (a couple of comments have mentioned them already) there are no real obstacles for you to roll around a suitcase with wheels!I will be going in a few weeks and I just bought a small 20 carry on suitcase to go along with my small backpack. There is absolutely no way I want to carry everything on my back, even if I am just doing a 10 day trip where I can do laundry in the middle of it, I absolutely do not want everything on my back.

Because you will not want to carry your backpack with you all the time and like a said in the heat you will want to have as less things as possible so you will leave your main bag at the place where you staying and continue to explore with smaller bag ( for your water proof backpack, sunscreen, snacks, umbrella,etc ) I recently discovered this 2in1 bag as good option because I can have my main backpack and fanny pack for small travel backpack anti theft items such as money/phone/sunglasses to keep them relatively safe but easy to access when i commuting from bus to hotel and when I arrive at the place where i staying i can leave main backpack and have fannypack or daypack for daily stuff when i exploring the city. I know every Ogio I had hasn worn out even after years of daily heavy use. This will allow you to actually get the idea of how the backpack fits on the dog.
