Bears will tend to congregate around campgrounds because stupid campers have left food out. They not an animal to fear but one to respect. If you use either a canister or an on site bear box everything with a scent needs to go inside. If you are dispersed camping you may find info on food storage recommendations on the forest service page for the area. Also some coolers are bear proof, in that you can put a heavy duty lock on them to prevent animals from breaking into them (my cooler is an Orca brand and has this feature). Either way if you are dispersed you will want to make your food prep, cleaning and eating stations a 100 200yard distance from your tent for safety reasons..
