I'm not sure if this is overkill or not but I've alchemist backpack in every town fully loaded with flint, water skins and salts. All that stuff is heavy. Perhaps I should just leave it back in town I gotta admit I don really do much (if any) alchemy or cooking while I out of town, but my base instinct is to pack prepared..
