This is an old revision of the document!

If you ever had a chance of planning a boating or camping trip, then it is likely that you would have to be involved in an activity of towing a trailer. With a category BE driving licence a person can drive a vehicle combination with a category B towing vehicle (maximum total mass 3,500 kg) and a towed vehicle with a maximum total mass of 3,500 kg. The total mass of the vehicle combination can be a maximum of 3,500 + 3,500= 7,000 kg.

In the United States, several states have laws that regulate the circumstances under which a car may be towed. You should never lose brake fluid unless you have a leak in the system, which should be corrected before you drive the vehicle again. While most base plate manufacturers construct products to fit as many applications as possible, it is not uncommon to find that the company that made your tow bar does not have base plates for your vehicle.

On a motorway or dual-carriageway where the limit for a car is 70mph, then drive at 60mph to stay the right side of the law while towing. Actively steer and brake your vehicle in coordination with the vehicle that is towing. To illustrate the point, you can't have a small 1-litre car towing a huge 4×4 SUV.

If you would prefer not to drive the vehicle to us, we will arrange for your vehicle to be picked up by a towing company at your convenience, with no cost to you. Tow bars with adjustable arms are easier to hook up. You do not have to drive your dinghy into an exact position to connect your towing system rather; you pull the telescoping arm out, or push it back in, to get the length you need.

Pro Tip: A tow dolly is often the cheapest but not the most beneficial method to tow a car behind an RV. If you have a larger car or vehicle, invest in a more practical tow behind solution for your travels. Most often, tow bars are used in tandem with an RV to tow a vehicle for use while traveling cross country.

Remember to allow yourself plenty of time to practice driving with a trailer to build your skill and boost your confidence. 3. Move vehicles to safety. If you drive a vehicle of this weight you are permitted to tow a trailer of up to 750kg, while the trailer can weigh more than 750kg as long as the total weight of the tow vehicle and trailer combined does not exceed 3,500kg.

If you have a spare tire and you know how to change it, then that's great but if you don't you will need to look for a towing service or roadside assistance service available in your area. On a learner or restricted car licence (Class 1) you can tow a trailer but the combined weight of your vehicle, the trailer and its load must not exceed 4500kg.
